Position Title:  PHP Developer / Project Coordinator (Full Time)
Salary:  TBD       Start Date: Immediate

Job description

We aren't big on titles, so 'php developer / project coordinator' does not really begin to describe the vital, management track position that has opened up at our firm. "One-who- makes-it-all-come-to-fruition" would probably be the best title for this job, (if only it would fit on a business card.)

We are looking for a driven, detail-oriented individual who is excited to join an established company in "start-up" mode with four new web software products.

The successful candidate will be essential to helping our small firm execute aggressive growth plans. Software development management is core to the position.

If hired you will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of new projects, from their initiation through to completion. This will include:

  • Business analysis & scope development/documentation;
  • Developing task lists and ensuring the development team delivers on time;
  • Tracking the status of all projects, identifying projects at risk of de-railing and working with the company owners to mitigate problems before they become entrenched;
  • Maintaining clear and effective communication with clients on the projects you manage;
  • Communicating with existing clients as the liaison they contact when needing pricing for new work;
  • Successfully delivering multiple projects of varying size and scope in parallel;
  • Filling in where needed, including helping the company owners reach out to new customers, assisting with proposals, hiring and most of all using your insights and action-oriented attitude to implement efficiency improvements;
  • With your developer background, you will also do some hands-on programming.

The ideal candidate

  • Details, details, details! If you were asked to say one thing about yourself, it is that you are always on top of the little things that make a big difference, and you do not let things slip through the cracks.
  • Has a strong understanding of web application development and the ability to work hands-on to help out at different stages of the project, most importantly the initial data analysis.
  • Takes satisfaction from working hard and seeing results from that effort.
  • Is creative, a great communicator, likes people and is also sensitive to human dynamics.
  • Will always go the extra mile to make sure there is a stamp of excellence on the work being delivered.
  • Has 5+ years experience working in web application development and project coordination on complex web projects.
  • Has experience as well as some formalized training in project management.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is a strong asset, but not required.

We will also consider two other hiring scenarios for this position:

  1. Strong PHP/MySQL developers looking to move up to a project management position, who can bridge the job of coordinating projects and doing hands-on work.

  2. We will also consider training a bright, rising star with less experience, provided that you have training and hands-on experience that spans both web-based software application development, sales and project coordination AND are ready to step-up to help a dynamic firm achieve its sales goals as well as handling project coordination.

Qualifications

The problem with writing down a list of qualifications is that having a preset laundry list of requirements doesn't always result in the best people for position being hired. With that being said, here is an outline of the type of qualifications we would expect a successful candidate to have.

  • University degree with courses in computer science, and/or business administration;
  • 3-5 years hands-on experience as well as formal courses in project management;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership / team building skills; and
  • Strong written/verbal communications
