| Business website venture top winner in national business plan competition for young entrepreneurs Stouffville, ON June 10,1998 – Biz-Zone Internet Group, the publisher of CanadaOne – a free business website at www.canadaone.com – was honoured with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Best Overall Business Plan Award in the 1997/98 National Business Plan Competition for Young Entrepreneurs put on by Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Canada. Biz-Zone Internet Group also won first prize in the On-Line Ventures category of the competition, with the overall value of both wins topping $57,000 Biz-Zone. Over 500 plans were submitted to the contest, which were then narrowed down to 8 category winners. In the final phase of the competition one team member from the top winning team in each category had 25 minutes to present their business plan before a distinguished judging panel. At the end of the day the judges selected the overall contest winner (Biz-Zone), which was announced later that evening at a gala awards banquet attended by more than 200 senior corporate leaders and top public officials, including Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of Human Resources Development Canada. When asked why she thought the judges picked Biz-Zone Internet Group’s plan out all of those presented, Julie King said, “If anything would have set our plan apart from the others presented, it would probably have been our management team and strategic approach to business.” “I was impressed by all of the participants, and feel honoured to have had our plan selected as the overall winner,” says King, who did the presentation to the judges on behalf of Biz-Zone. “Today’s youth are challenged with job shortages and a lack of entry level positions. Many youths, like myself, view entrepreneurship as a viable way to build our own futures.” The next step for Biz-Zone Internet Group is to continue to build the CanadaOne website – www.canadaone.com - and to work hard to develop their plan into a successful, sustainable business. “We have a long road ahead of us, but what an exciting and challenging road it is,” says King. Biz-Zone Internet Group publishes www.CanadaOne.com, a free website that helps business owners and operators access Canadian-specific articles, resources, and business listings on the Internet. -30- For further information: Julie King, Biz-Zone Internet Group Inc., (905) 640-8441, julie@biz-zone.com, www.canadaone.com. | ![]() |
